A Note from Aaron on National EVOO Day
Today is National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Day, so I thought I would take this opportunity to answer a question I frequently hear, which is how I went from growing ancient olive tree varieties to offering Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar and other tasteful elements of the Mediterranean culinary tradition.
I grew up in Northern California, close to the vineyards of Sonoma wine country, where olive trees also thrive. While many who grow up in this region become grape growers, I was taken with the architectural beauty of the old olive trees often found growing alongside the vineyards. I appreciated how the trees grew more textural in shape and character as they aged, standing almost as sculptural works.
I initially began Ancient Olive Trees while working for my dad in his laboratory business. During many long family road trips north to Lake Almanor, I spotted several abandoned olives groves throughout the region. They might have once adorned an old town square or a forgotten estate. Soon, I began acquiring the orchards and farming the neglected trees back to health. I ultimately decided that olive trees were more inspiring than lab tests and turned my attention to tree farming full time. While most of our trees go to landscaping private estates and public installations, it felt natural to expand into offering the “fruit of the tree” as part of our product line.
Today, we’ve evolved into a culinary lifestyle and decor company. We still produce our flagship Extra Virgin Olive Oil and rich, flavorful Balsamic Vinegar as well as a perfectly balanced Dirty Martini Juice - it’s much better than tossing in the brine from the olive jar! Our newest offering includes a collection of custom-fragranced, hand-poured candles that warm up any space with style and grace.
I’ve found that some of our customers love sharing the gift of good taste with their friends and family members, and others give our products to business clients and colleagues. We also have fans who never want to run out of their favorites, so we introduced a set-it-and-forget-it subscription program. As a thank you, remember that any time you purchase with us, we offer $9.99 flat-rate shipping on single bottles and complimentary shipping on orders over $50.00.
Thank you for supporting our family-owned and operated business and please feel free to reach out to me at aaron@ancientolivetrees.com with any questions.
Sincerely,
Aaron Mount
